Jim was able to support himself as an artist and his father helped him buy his first guitar in '79. Jim's first album was "the long, long way" in '80, and he was off on the long journey to find his way. Jim's song "the boy with the thorn in his side" helped get him up on the charts. John denver was able to connect with the public on a personal level by performing "the mile-lab" on "the apollo theater" in "the long, long way".
